Three Belo Stations Win 2008 Alred I. duPont-Columbia University Awards
Belo Corp. announced today that three of its television stations were honored with the prestigious Alfred I. duPont-Columbia University Silver Baton Award for excellence in broadcast journalism at a ceremony held last evening at Columbia University. WFAA-TV in Dallas/Fort Worth, KHOU-TV in Houston and KMOV-TV in St. Louis were three of only 13 winners chosen from a pool of 510 radio and television news entries. The three Belo stations are among only five United States local television stations honored this year.

Belo Television Stations Win Four National Murrow Awards
Belo television stations have won four national Edward R. Murrow Awards for 2007, more than all other station groups nationwide in the total number of awards received. The awards recognized KING-TV in Seattle/Tacoma for its Web site KING5.com, WCNC-TV in Charlotte for Sports Reporting, KVUE-TV in Austin for Overall Excellence and KTVB in Boise for Sports Reporting. The Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) presents the Murrow Awards annually to honor outstanding achievements in electronic journalism and recognize news organizations that set the standard in the broadcast news profession.

KMOV-TV Wins a Peabody Award
Belo announced that KMOV-TV, its CBS affiliate in St. Louis, has been awarded a 2006 George Foster Peabody Award. KMOV was one of only four local television stations in the nation to receive this prestigious honor. KMOV was recognized for its "Left Behind: The Failure of East St. Louis Schools," a series of 21 reports over seven months that found the school system had violated state and federal special-education requirements and uncovered widespread political and nepotistic hiring by the school board.

WWL-TV Wins 2007 duPont-Columbia Award for Its Hurricane Katrina Coverage
WWL-TV, Belo's CBS affiliate in New Orleans, received the prestigious Alfred I. duPont-Columbia Award for excellence in broadcast journalism. WWL is one of only five local commercial television stations in the nation to win this award. The 150 employees of WWL provided 14 days of continuous coverage of the devastation of Hurricane Katrina, beginning two days before the storm made landfall. Dedicated WWL team members provided viewers with vital news and information when the need was greatest. As one viewer said, "When every light was out, WWL was there." Due to careful and extensive pre-planning, WWL was the only station to remain on the air during the height of the storm and in the days afterwards. Continuous coverage originated from WWL studios in the French Quarter as well as from an alternate broadcast facility on the Louisiana State University campus and the WWL transmitter facility and studios of Louisiana Public Broadcasting in Baton Rouge.

KVUE NEWS Wins National Murrow Award
The Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) has awarded KVUE-TV with the national Edward R. Murrow Award for excellence in electronic journalism. KVUE's Todd Rogenthien received the award in the category of Best Videography for the story, "Le Parkour," reported by anchor Christine Haas. The story focuses on an innovative new exercise trend that involves using Austin's Texas landmarks as an obstacle course.

Belo announced that KHOU-TV, the Company's CBS affiliate in Houston, Texas, has been awarded an Alfred I. duPont-Columbia University Award. KHOU's investigative team, the 11 News Defenders, received a Silver Baton for its series on potential problems with Firestone tires. Following the series, Firestone issued a recall of more than six million tires.
