PORTLAND, OR— After a nationwide search, KGW NewsChannel 8 announces the promotion of Rick Jacobs to the role of executive news director. Jacobs has been the assistant news director at KGW NewsChannel 8 for eleven years.
Jacobs has deep experience covering the issues of importance to Oregonians. He has spent his entire television news career of over twenty-five years in the state. He launched his journalism career in Medford, then moved to the larger market of Eugene, and finally to the state’s largest city of Portland. Each move entailed increasing roles of responsibility in newsroom management.
“For over a decade, Rick has been a key part of our success in a fast changing and competitive industry. Every breaking news story and every award we’ve received carries Rick’s leadership and journalistic sensibility,” said DJ Wilson, president and general manager of the KGW Media Group. “It was clear that the best person to lead our newsroom through the multiplatform and on demand environment of contemporary news was already on our team. I’m thrilled to make this well-deserved promotion official.”
